Background

Optifast is a liquid-based diet replacing the ordinary meals. Optifast reminds me of this movie I have seen about an athlete preparing for his event. He takes in this meal in a glass before he takes off. He mixes this concoction of healthy foods. He puts everything into the blender. And his energy drink is complete. He goes to this event and wins the game.

Optifast are meal-replacement drinks and bars. Instead of taking in the ordinary solid food, Optifast has found a formula which combines the necessary nutrients the body needs in a drink. They have also introduced bars in the market.

Optifast diet plan is often recommended for patients who are about to undergo gastric surgery. This plan is also for post-surgical patients who cannot take in solid foods after the procedure.

Engaging oneself in an Optifast diet program needs appropriate medical exam to gauge whether he is fit to undergo the program.

Monitoring and evaluation of the progress of the program come on a one-on-one or group consultations.

This diet plan does not only concentrate on the nutrition and medical aspects. It also focuses on the behavior of the person going through this program.

Pros

People who have undergone the program really lose weight if done properly even in the first stages of the program.

Cons

  • There is the difficulty to address the initial mind-shift and physical-shift of a person who is accustomed to solid-food meals to liquid-based meals.

  • It can be heavier on the budget to have a separate meal when others in the environment may share the whole meal together.

  • It cannot be taken ordinarily on one’s own. Monitoring has to be done.

Food and Recipes

Optifast has the shakes and bars which come in different flavors. Flavors vary from vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, french vanilla, garden tomato.

Exercise

Exercise will vary depending on the individuals level of fitness.

Expense

As it has already been mentioned, Optifast needs investment. An individual serving can cost at $3.43. The servings will depend on the program a person has to undergo. Computation-wise, you need to shell out more or less $500 for a regular program

Conclusion

Optifast may offer a positive solution for people in the primary stages. However, keeping the diet plan in a lifetime basis may be problematic for more. Sometimes, it is not the supplement that really matters. Supplements and replacements may be good. However, do they have what it takes to keep a person whose foe is his own self through time?
